Round Nine
Casey Thunder 1 vs Narre South Saints
Strathaird Reserve
Written by Head Coach Justin Redinger
Casey Thunder 1 travelled to Narre Warren on the weekend to take on the in form Narre Saints. The game got off to a hot start and Narre were able to get an early goal against the wind and casey managed to respond soon after by some great craft work by Lana to convert.
Unable to take advantage of the conditions Casey went into quarter time 1 point down. Narre were however able to do so on the small ground and with the wind behind their backs were able to put thru 3 goals to take a nice lead before Casey hit back thru the great work of Elaine to peg them pack to a 2 goal lead heading into half time.
The 3rd quarter Casey were managing to get the game back on their terms but were unable to convert in front of goal until Courters managed a late goal in the quarter. Casey kicked 1 goal 5 behinds for the quarter and reduced the margin to 3 points heading into the final quarter. To their credit Narre Saints dominated the quarter kicking 2 quick goals and managed to run out 14 point winners.
A great win by Narre and well deserved celebration after the game. For Casey it’s back to training and preparing for their next assignment against Black Rock and with some key players returning over the next couple of weeks will look to bounce back.
Goal Kickers – Lana, Elaine, Courters
Best – Katie, Elaine, Tameka, Leesh, Emma, Bambi, Knuds.

This week there was plenty on the line in our match up with Chelsea Heights with the fight for fourth spot on the ladder well and truly up for grabs. Chelsea Heights got the jump on us early in the first but by mid way through the quarter we were breaking even in field positioning led by the strong tackling from Sammy, hard running of Hayley Watts and Hayley Dryer and Pamo was creating multiple opportunities to go coast to coast from defence. Shenae, Heidi and Erin played pivotal roles for the team and never gave up.
As the game went on we continued to create multiple forward entry’s with strong contested marking from Rach and Hoodz. Unfortunately the game turned into a bit of a physical scrap but the girls stuck together and ran it out till the final siren. Special mention to Pam who showed incredible leadership all day and led by example with her actions.
